Quick answers
- Family didn't get an alert: on their iPhone, check Settings, Notifications, Guardian Star is allowed,
and Time Sensitive Notifications is on. Then run a test from the app.
- Making sure alerts get through: after a test run, the Family screen shows whose iPhone it reached. If
someone's iPhone stops getting Guardian Star's notifications, the Family screen says so. And once the first
person's iPhone has confirmed a notification (after a test, for example), if it doesn't confirm a real
alert within a few minutes, everyone else is told straight away.
- Testing: start a test run in the app. In about two minutes your family list gets each
step of an alert, clearly marked as a test, so everyone sees how one looks. Nobody needs to do anything.
- Going away: use Pause in the app so nobody is alerted while you travel. Your family list
is told until when.
- Seeing everyone at a glance: add the Guardian Star widget to your Home Screen. Touch and hold
an empty spot, tap Edit, then Add Widget, and choose Guardian Star. It shows how each person you look out
for is doing today.
- Inviting family: in the app, Who is told, then Choose from Contacts. Messages opens with the
invite ready to send. Family need an iPhone with Guardian Star; the invite link explains how to get it.
- Setting it up for a parent: on their iPhone, open Guardian Star and tap "Setting this iPhone up
for a parent, together?". At the end their iPhone shows a code: scan it with your own iPhone's Camera.
- Getting a parent started from far away: install Guardian Star, choose "For someone I care about",
then "They don't have Guardian Star yet? Ask them". They get a link. Once they've set Guardian Star up and said yes,
you're on their family list.
- Checking in more than once a day: Settings, then Check-ins a day: once, twice or three times.
Walking about checks you in by itself for each one, so it rarely means more tapping.
- When family are told: at your check-in time, if nothing has checked you in, your iPhone
rings "Are you OK?". If you don't answer, your family are told after the wait you chose (15 minutes to
2 hours): Settings, then Tell family after.
- Sending a heart: on the page of someone you look out for, tap Send a heart, or write a short
note with it. It arrives on their iPhone, quietly between 9 PM and 8 AM their time. They can turn hearts off
in Settings.
- Low battery: on the page of someone you look out for, Battery warning sets the level at which
you're told (or never). Whatever you choose, if their phone is nearly empty and then goes quiet for two
hours, you hear it may have died, and again when it's on; they get a note to open Guardian Star once, waiting
for when the phone comes back on.
- Several missed days in a row: if someone has stopped using Guardian Star, each family member can
turn their own alerts off on that person's page. They come back on by themselves at the next check-in.
- New iPhone: sign in with the same Apple Account and open Guardian Star. It offers to move your check-ins.
- Is Guardian Star working? Guardian Star's status page says whether alerts are
going out normally.
